The purpose of this paper is to set out, in simple, non-technical language, the legal rights of political detainees under martial law at the time of their arrest and during their detention. All too often these rights are violated with impunity simply because political detainees do not know their rights or are denied the right to communicate with their lawyers. This paper hopes to alleviate this situation.
